Narcolepsy

Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder that affects the brain's ability to regulate sleep-wake cycles. People with narcolepsy often experience excessive daytime sleepiness and may suddenly feel an overwhelming urge to sleep, even at inappropriate times. This can lead to brief sleep episodes. Other symptoms may include cataplexy (sudden muscle weakness triggered by strong emotions), sleep paralysis, and vivid hallucinations during sleep onset or awakening. Narcolepsy is not fully understood but is believed to involve genetic and environmental factors. While there is no cure, treatment can help manage symptoms and improve daily functioning.
