Nabonidus
Nabonidus was the last king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, ruling from 556 to 539 BC. He is known for his unusual religious practices, favoring the moon god Sin over the traditional Babylonian gods, which caused tensions with the priesthood. Nabonidus spent much of his reign in Arabia, leaving his son Belshazzar to govern Babylon. His reign ended when the Persian Empire, led by Cyrus the Great, conquered Babylon. Nabonidus's religious reforms and his distant rule contributed to a decline in support, leading to his fall and the eventual merging of Babylonian culture into the Persian Empire.
