Mediastinal Tumors

Mediastinal tumors are abnormal growths that occur in the mediastinum, the area in the center of the chest between the lungs. This region contains important structures, including the heart, major blood vessels, trachea, and esophagus. Tumors may be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous) and can originate from various types of cells, including those in lymph nodes or nerve tissue. Symptoms might include chest pain, difficulty breathing, or coughing. Diagnosis often involves imaging studies and biopsy, while treatment may include surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy, depending on the tumor's type and stage.
