Thymoma

Thymoma is a tumor that originates in the thymus gland, which is located in the chest behind the sternum and plays a role in immune system development. Although often slow-growing, thymomas can sometimes spread to nearby tissues or organs. They may cause symptoms like chest pain, cough, or shortness of breath, or be found incidentally during imaging tests. Thymomas are generally treatable, often involving surgery to remove the tumor, and depending on the stage, additional therapies like radiation or chemotherapy may be needed. Early diagnosis and treatment provide the best outlook.
