Mechanical Circulatory Support

Mechanical circulatory support refers to devices used to assist or replace the heart's pumping function in patients with severe heart failure. These devices, like left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) or total artificial hearts, help maintain blood flow and oxygen delivery throughout the body when the heart cannot do so effectively. They are often used as a temporary solution while waiting for a heart transplant or as a long-term treatment option. Mechanical circulatory support can significantly improve a patient's quality of life and increase survival chances in critical situations.
