Berlin Heart
The Berlin Heart is a type of mechanical device used to assist patients, particularly children with severe heart failure, by helping to pump blood when their own heart is too weak. It is a ventricular assist device (VAD) that takes over the heart's pumping function, allowing blood to circulate throughout the body. This helps to stabilize the patient and can be a temporary solution until a heart transplant is possible or until their heart improves. The device is implanted in the chest and is connected to tubes that lead to the heart and blood vessels.
