Mahdism
Mahdism is a religious belief in Islam centered around the idea of the Mahdi, a messianic figure who is expected to appear before the Day of Judgment. Followers believe the Mahdi will restore justice and righteousness, guide Muslims, and lead a significant transformation in society. This concept is particularly prominent in Shia Islam, which emphasizes the Mahdi's role as the twelfth Imam who is currently in occultation. In contrast, Sunni beliefs about the Mahdi exist but are generally less central. Mahdism reflects themes of hope, divine justice, and the eventual triumph of good over evil.
