Twelver Shia Islam

Twelver Shia Islam is the largest branch of Shia Islam, believing that Muhammad's rightful successor was his cousin and son-in-law, Ali. They hold that Ali and his eleven successors, known as Imams, are divinely appointed and infallible spiritual guides. These Imams are believed to possess special knowledge and serve as the true leaders of the Muslim community. Twelvers emphasize the importance of family lineage, particularly through the Ahl al-Bayt (the family of Muhammad). They observe religious practices such as pilgrimage, prayer, and commemorations like Ashura, which marks the martyrdom of Imam Husayn, emphasizing themes of justice and righteousness.
