Magyarization
Magyarization refers to the process of promoting Hungarian culture, language, and identity, often aimed at assimilating non-Hungarian populations within Hungary and its historically controlled regions. This initiative, particularly significant during the 19th and early 20th centuries, sought to strengthen national unity and identity following the establishment of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Non-Hungarian communities faced pressures to adopt the Hungarian language and cultural practices, which sometimes led to the erosion of their own identities. The impacts of Magyarization are still discussed today in the context of national identity, cultural diversity, and historical relations in Central Europe.
