Union of Hungary and Croatia
The Union of Hungary and Croatia, established in 1102, was a personal union where both kingdoms shared the same king while maintaining separate governments and laws. This arrangement allowed Croatia to retain its own identity and autonomy but meant that decisions affecting both lands often came from a shared ruler. The union helped strengthen ties between the two regions, especially in facing external threats. It lasted for centuries but eventually dissolved due to various political changes and pressures, particularly during the rise of nationalism in the 19th century.
