Loyalist
In historical contexts, "Loyalists" refers to individuals in the American colonies who remained loyal to the British crown during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). They opposed the revolution and supported British rule, often fearing the instability independence could bring. Loyalists included a diverse group of people, such as government officials, wealthy landowners, and former soldiers. After the war, many Loyalists faced persecution and some emigrated to Canada or other parts of the British Empire to escape conflicts with revolutionaries who viewed them as traitors. Their legacy continues to influence discussions about loyalty and national identity.
