Lluís Companys

Lluís Companys (1882-1940) was a prominent Catalan politician and leader of the Catalonia region during a tumultuous period in Spanish history. He served as the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the autonomous government of Catalonia, during the Spanish Civil War. Companys was a staunch advocate for Catalan independence and democratic rights. After the war, he was captured by Franco's regime, tried, and executed in 1940.
