Liberation War of Bangladesh

The Liberation War of Bangladesh took place in 1971, when East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) fought for independence from West Pakistan (now Pakistan). The conflict stemmed from political, linguistic, and economic discrimination against the Bengali-speaking population in the east. After a brutal nine-month struggle marked by widespread violence and human rights abuses, Bangladesh declared independence on March 26, 1971. The war ended on December 16, 1971, when Indian forces intervened, leading to the surrender of Pakistani troops. This resulted in the creation of Bangladesh as a sovereign nation. The war is a pivotal event in South Asian history.
