Legions

Legions were large military units used by the ancient Roman army, typically consisting of about 4,500 to 6,000 soldiers. Each legion was made up of smaller units called cohorts and was known for its discipline, training, and organization. Legions played a key role in expanding and defending the Roman Empire, participating in battles and maintaining order in conquered territories. Soldiers in a legion were often professional soldiers who served for many years. The structure and tactics of legions were influential in military strategies throughout history. The term "legion" has since come to denote any large group or army.
