Latin

Latin is an ancient language originally spoken in the region of Latium, where Rome is located. As the Roman Empire expanded, Latin evolved and influenced many languages across Europe. The modern Romance languages—such as Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Romanian—are directly descended from Latin. These languages share vocabulary, grammatical structures, and roots that can be traced back to Latin, making them part of the same linguistic family. Although Latin is no longer spoken as a native language, it remains significant in fields like law, medicine, and the Catholic Church, and is often studied for its historical impact.
