Lactase

Lactase is an enzyme produced in the small intestine that helps break down lactose, the sugar found in milk and dairy products, into simpler sugars called glucose and galactose, which the body can absorb and use for energy. Some people produce less lactase as they age, leading to difficulty digesting lactose, a condition known as lactose intolerance. This can cause symptoms like bloating, gas, and diarrhea after consuming dairy. Lactase supplements or lactose-free products can help manage these symptoms by providing an alternative way to digest lactose effectively.
