Krakatoa
Krakatoa is a volcanic island located in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. It is best known for its catastrophic eruption in 1883, one of the most violent volcanic events in recorded history. The eruption caused massive tsunamis and led to the deaths of over 36,000 people. The explosion was so powerful that it could be heard thousands of miles away and dramatically altered global climate for years, causing cooler temperatures and unusual weather patterns. Krakatoa remains an active volcano and serves as a significant subject of study for volcanologists.
