Kosovo independence

Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008, following a long history of ethnic tensions and conflict, particularly during the 1990s. The region, largely populated by ethnic Albanians, sought to establish itself as a separate state after a NATO intervention in 1999 ended the Kosovo War. While many countries, including the United States and a majority of European nations, recognize Kosovo's independence, Serbia and some other countries do not, leading to ongoing disputes over its status. Kosovo's independence remains a significant issue in international diplomacy and regional politics in the Balkans.
