Rambouillet Agreement
The Rambouillet Agreement was a proposed peace agreement in 1999 aimed at resolving conflict in Kosovo between Serbian authorities and ethnic Albanian rebels. It sought to grant Kosovo broad autonomy while remaining part of Serbia, with provisions for NATO-led peacekeeping forces and international oversight. The deal was designed to end violence and establish stability but was rejected by Serbian leaders, who viewed it as too compromising of Serbia’s sovereignty. Ultimately, the rejection contributed to NATO launching a military intervention in Kosovo.
