John Rawls (theorist)

John Rawls was an American political philosopher best known for his work on justice and fairness. In his influential book "A Theory of Justice," he introduced the idea of the "original position" and the "veil of ignorance." This thought experiment asks us to imagine designing a society without knowing our own place in it, promoting equality and fairness. Rawls argued for two key principles: equal basic rights for everyone and social and economic inequalities should benefit the least advantaged. His ideas significantly shaped contemporary discussions on justice, social policy, and ethics.
