Jefferson Davis

Jefferson Davis was an American politician and military officer who served as the President of the Confederate States of America from 1861 to 1865 during the American Civil War. Born in 1808 in Kentucky, he initially served in the U.S. Army and later became a U.S. senator and Secretary of War. Davis advocated for the Southern states' rights to maintain slavery. As president of the Confederacy, he faced significant challenges, including military defeats and resource shortages. After the Confederacy's defeat in 1865, he was captured, imprisoned, and later released. He died in 1889, remaining a controversial figure in American history.
