James K. Polk

James K. Polk was the 11th President of the United States, serving from 1845 to 1849. He is known for his expansionist policies and for leading the nation during the Mexican-American War, which resulted in significant territorial gains, including California and New Mexico. Polk aimed to fulfill the idea of "Manifest Destiny," the belief that the U.S. was destined to expand across the continent. A Democrat, he was also notable for reducing tariffs and establishing the U.S. Naval Academy. After serving just one term, he chose not to seek re-election and passed away shortly after leaving office.
