Tennessee Statehood
Tennessee became a state on June 1, 1796, after being part of the Southwest Territory, which was established following the American Revolutionary War. The region attracted settlers seeking land and opportunity. As the population grew, residents pushed for statehood. The U.S. Congress approved Tennessee's admission as the 16th state, making it the first state created from the territory of the original United States. Nashville was later chosen as the state capital, and Tennessee has since played a significant role in American history, especially in the Civil War and as a cultural hub for music and arts.
