Territory of Tennessee

The Territory of Tennessee was a designated area in the early 1800s before it became a state. Originally part of North Carolina and later South Carolina, it was organized as a separate territory in 1790 due to increasing settlement. The territory covered lands in the southeastern part of what is now the United States and was characterized by frontier settlements, Native American tribes, and exploration. In 1796, Tennessee was admitted as the 16th state, marking the end of its territorial period. The territory's development was influenced by westward expansion, treaties with Native tribes, and the push for statehood.
