International Security Assistance Force
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was a NATO-led mission established in 2001 to provide security and stability in Afghanistan following the U.S. invasion that ousted the Taliban. Its primary goal was to assist the Afghan government in rebuilding the country, combating terrorism, and training Afghan security forces. ISAF was formed to support civilian efforts for reconstruction and development. Over the years, it involved troops from numerous countries, emphasizing a cooperative international approach to peacekeeping and security in a highly complex and challenging environment. The mission officially ended in 2014, transitioning to a training role under the Resolute Support Mission.
