Hongwu Emperor

The Hongwu Emperor, Zhu Yuanzhang, was the founder of China's Ming Dynasty, reigning from 1368 to 1398. He rose from humble beginnings, being born into a poor peasant family and initially working as a monk. After a series of rebellions against the Mongol-led Yuan Dynasty, he established the Ming Dynasty, which restored native Han Chinese rule. His reign focused on strengthening central authority, promoting agriculture, and improving the economy. He implemented significant reforms, including land redistribution and the establishment of a merit-based civil service exam system. His legacy is marked by the stability and cultural flourishing of the Ming era.
