Herpesvirus

Herpesvirus refers to a group of viruses that can cause infections in humans and animals. There are several types, with the most well-known being Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) types 1 and 2, which typically cause oral and genital herpes, respectively. Once infected, the virus remains in the body for life, often lying dormant in nerve cells. It can reactivate, leading to outbreaks characterized by blisters or sores. The virus is contagious, spreading through direct contact with sores or infected areas. Managing outbreaks usually involves antiviral medications to reduce symptoms and transmission risk.
