Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8), also known as Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus, is a virus that can infect people without causing symptoms. In some individuals, especially those with weakened immune systems, it can lead to tumors called Kaposi’s sarcoma, which appear as purple or red skin lesions. HHV-8 can also be linked to certain rare lymphatic and blood cancers. The virus is mainly transmitted through sexual contact, blood, or from mother to child. While most people infected don’t experience health issues, monitoring and managing immune health are important to prevent associated diseases.
