Hemoglobin A1c
Hemoglobin A1c, often referred to as HbA1c, is a blood test that measures the average level of glucose (sugar) in your blood over the past two to three months. It is used primarily to assess how well diabetes is being managed. The test reflects the percentage of sugar-coated hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. A higher HbA1c level indicates poorer blood sugar control, which can increase the risk of diabetes-related complications. Doctors often use it to determine diagnosis and treatment plans for individuals with diabetes or prediabetes.
