Hegemonic Stability Theory

Hegemonic stability theory suggests that the international system is more stable and orderly when a single dominant power, or "hegemon," exerts influence over other nations. This dominant power can establish rules and norms that other countries follow, promoting economic cooperation and reducing conflict. Historically, the presence of a strong hegemon, like the United States post-World War II, has led to a more predictable global environment. However, if the hegemon declines or loses influence, instability can arise as other nations may compete for power or challenge established norms.
