Harrison Schmitt

Harrison Schmitt is an American astronaut, geologist, and former U.S. Senator. He is notably one of the twelve people who walked on the Moon, participating in NASA's Apollo 17 mission in 1972, which was the last crewed Moon landing to date. Schmitt is distinguished for being the only scientist (a lunar geologist) to have flown to the Moon, and his geological expertise contributed significantly to our understanding of lunar rock samples. After his NASA career, he served as a Republican Senator from New Mexico from 1977 to 1983, emphasizing science and technology in policy.
