Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution

The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution was a socio-political movement in China from 1966 to 1976, initiated by Mao Zedong. Its goal was to preserve communist ideology by removing capitalist, traditional, and cultural elements from Chinese society. This led to widespread persecution of perceived enemies, including intellectuals, and resulted in social upheaval and violence. The movement aimed to empower youth and mobilize the masses to challenge authority, but it ultimately caused significant economic disruption and suffering. After Mao's death, the Cultural Revolution was officially denounced, and China shifted towards more pragmatic policies.
