Four Olds
The "Four Olds" refers to an ideological campaign during China's Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) aimed at eradicating old customs, culture, habits, and ideas that were seen as detrimental to society. Promoted by Mao Zedong, this campaign sought to reshape Chinese culture by rejecting traditional values and encouraging revolutionary fervor. The movement led to widespread chaos, destruction of historical artifacts, and persecution of individuals associated with the old ways. It represented an extreme effort to redefine Chinese identity and promote a new socialist culture, ultimately resulting in significant social and cultural upheaval.
