Cultural Revolution Group
The Cultural Revolution Group was a key organization in China during the Cultural Revolution, a movement initiated by Mao Zedong from 1966 to 1976. Its purpose was to reinforce communist ideology by targeting perceived bourgeois elements in society, including intellectuals, traditional culture, and political opponents. The group guided youths, particularly the Red Guards, in mobilizing mass campaigns that often led to widespread social upheaval, violence, and persecution. The Cultural Revolution aimed to strengthen Mao's control and eliminate dissent, profoundly impacting China's political and cultural landscape. After Mao's death, the movement was officially criticized for its excesses and negative consequences.
