Gettier Problem

The Gettier Problem challenges the traditional definition of knowledge as "justified true belief." It presents scenarios where a person has a belief that is true and justified, yet intuitively doesn't seem to be knowledge. For instance, if someone sees a sheep in a field and correctly believes it’s a sheep, but it’s actually a cleverly disguised dog, they have a justified true belief that feels accidental. In the context of Virtue Epistemology, this raises questions about the role of intellectual virtues—qualities like insight and caring in truth-seeking—in genuinely acquiring knowledge rather than mere luck.
