Functional Gastrointestinal Diseases

Functional Gastrointestinal Diseases (FGIDs) refer to a group of digestive disorders where patients experience symptoms like pain, bloating, and altered bowel habits, but medical tests show no obvious physical abnormalities. Common examples include Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Functional Dyspepsia. These conditions often result from a mix of factors, including gut sensitivity, stress, and changes in gut bacteria. While they can significantly impact quality of life, FGIDs typically do not lead to serious health issues. Management often includes dietary changes, stress management, and medications to alleviate symptoms.
