Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR)
The Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR) are laws that were established in Pakistan to govern areas along its tribal frontier, particularly in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). They allow for a unique system of justice and governance, where tribal customs play a significant role. Under FCR, a single political agent can enforce laws and manage local affairs, often without full judicial processes. The regulations were criticized for lacking basic legal protections and promoting collective punishment, where entire tribes could be held responsible for individual actions. These regulations were largely replaced by the 25th Amendment in 2018, integrating the region into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
