Emperor Theodosius II ruled the Eastern Roman Empire from 408 to 450 AD. He is known for his efforts to strengthen Christianity as the state religion, leading to the suppression of pagan practices. Theodosius II also initiated the construction of the famous Theodosian Walls around Constantinople, enhancing the city's defenses. He commissioned the Codex Theodosianus, a compilation of laws that influenced future legal systems. His reign was marked by conflicts with Persia and internal challenges, but he is often remembered for solidifying the Christian identity of the empire during a time of significant political and social change.
