Monophysitism
Monophysitism is a Christian doctrine that emerged in the early centuries of the church, asserting that Jesus Christ has only one nature rather than two distinct ones. This belief holds that His divine nature fully absorbed His human nature, resulting in a single nature that is both divine and human. Monophysitism arose in response to debates about the nature of Christ, especially after the Council of Chalcedon in 451 AD, which affirmed that Jesus exists in two natures—fully divine and fully human. Monophysitism contributed to significant divisions within Christianity, particularly between Eastern and Western churches.
