Anastasius II

Anastasius II was a Byzantine emperor who ruled from 713 to 715 AD. He is notable for facing challenges from both internal factions and external threats, particularly from the Arabs. His reign was marked by attempts to stabilize the empire, as well as efforts to reconcile differences between various religious groups, especially concerning the controversial Iconoclast movement, which opposed the use of religious images. Anastasius II was eventually deposed and died shortly after his removal from power. His governance highlights the complexities of Byzantine politics and the difficulties of maintaining unity in a diverse empire.
