Election Commission of India
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is an autonomous constitutional authority responsible for administering and overseeing elections in India. Established in 1950, the ECI ensures free and fair elections for the Parliament and State Legislatures, as well as for the President and Vice President. It manages the electoral process, including the preparation of electoral rolls, conducting polling, and overseeing counting of votes. The commission also enforces the Model Code of Conduct to ensure that political parties and candidates adhere to ethical standards during elections. Its independence is vital for maintaining the integrity of India's democratic system.
