Ejection Fraction

Ejection Fraction (EF) is a measurement used to assess the heart's efficiency in pumping blood. It represents the percentage of blood that is ejected from the heart's main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, with each heartbeat. For example, an EF of 60% means that 60% of the blood in the ventricle is pumped out with each contraction. A normal EF ranges from 55% to 70%. Lower values may indicate heart problems and reduced pumping ability, while higher values can be less common and might suggest other conditions. Understanding EF helps doctors evaluate heart health.
