Heart Function
The heart functions as a muscular pump that moves blood throughout the body. It has four chambers: two upper small chambers called atria and two lower larger chambers called ventricles. The heart receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs and pumps it out to the body, delivering oxygen and nutrients to tissues. It also collects oxygen-poor blood returning from the body and sends it to the lungs for re-oxygenation. This continuous cycle, controlled by electrical signals, ensures vital organs and tissues receive blood flow needed for proper function and health.
