Ejército Republicano (Spanish Civil War)
The Ejército Republicano, or Republican Army, was the military force that fought for the Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War, which lasted from 1936 to 1939. Composed of various groups, including communists, socialists, and anarchists, the Republican Army defended the democratically elected government against General Francisco Franco's Nationalists, who sought to establish a dictatorship. The conflict involved complex social and political issues, and despite early successes, the Republican forces were ultimately defeated. This war had lasting effects on Spain, leading to decades of dictatorship under Franco and significant social repercussions.
