Diaphragmatic breathing, also known as deep or abdominal breathing, involves using the diaphragm—a large muscle located beneath the lungs—to enhance breathing efficiency. Instead of shallow breaths that mostly use the chest, diaphragmatic breathing engages the diaphragm to pull air deeply into the lungs. This technique promotes better oxygen intake, reduces stress, and improves overall lung function. To practice, place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen; inhale deeply through your nose, feeling your abdomen rise while keeping your chest relatively still.
