Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)
A Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is an area where military forces and weapons are prohibited to reduce tensions and prevent conflict between opposing sides. It is often established after a ceasefire or peace agreement, serving as a buffer zone to protect civilians and promote security. The most well-known DMZ is between North and South Korea, created at the end of the Korean War in 1953. DMZs aim to provide stability and allow for diplomatic negotiations while minimizing the risk of accidental confrontations or escalations.
