Cytokine storm

A cytokine storm is an extreme immune response where the body releases an excess of signaling proteins called cytokines. These cytokines normally help defend against infections, but when overproduced, they cause widespread inflammation and tissue damage. This can lead to severe symptoms like fever, fatigue, difficulty breathing, organ failure, and in extreme cases, can be life-threatening. It's often triggered by infections, such as severe cases of COVID-19, and requires prompt medical management to prevent serious complications.
