Council of Serdica

The Council of Serdica, held in 343 AD, was an important religious assembly in Christian history. Convened in modern-day Bulgaria, it aimed to resolve disputes over church leadership and doctrine, particularly about the issue of Arianism, which challenged the nature of Christ. The council sought to clarify the Church's teachings and addressed the treatment of bishops accused of heresy. Though it didn't achieve full unity, it set the groundwork for future ecumenical councils and influenced the development of orthodox Christian beliefs, underscoring the growing importance of church authority in the early Christian world.
