Councils of Sardica
The Councils of Sardica refer to two important Christian gatherings held in Sardica (modern-day Sofia, Bulgaria) in the mid-4th century. The first council in 343 AD addressed theological disputes, particularly issues related to Arianism, a belief questioning the divinity of Jesus. It sought to establish unity among Christian leaders and clarify church doctrine. The second council aimed to resolve disputes regarding church governance. These councils were significant in shaping early Christian beliefs and practices, highlighting the ongoing struggle to define orthodoxy in a growing and diverse faith.
