Council of Sardica
The Council of Sardica, held in 343 AD in the city of Sardica (present-day Sofia, Bulgaria), was a significant gathering of Christian bishops. Its main purpose was to address theological disputes and church governance issues, particularly concerning the Arian controversy, which debated the nature of Christ. The council aimed to restore unity among Christians and proposed guidelines for resolving disputes among bishops. It resulted in the formulation of canons, or church laws, that influenced later church practices. While not universally accepted, the council helped shape the development of Christianity and the authority of church councils.
